Queensland State Nominated Migration Program
South Australia has confirmed the nomination requirements and interim allocation for the 2025-26 Skilled Migration Program. Applicants seeking state nomination for the Skilled Nominated visa (subclass 190) or Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 491) should carefully review the updated guidelines before lodging an application. Albeit the regional subclass 491 allocation was comparatively lower for SA; the allocation for subclass 190 was joint highest with 3000 allocations. The same trend is likely to continue with continuous backing from Peter Malinauskas and his push for migration.
Interim Allocation and Program Settings
-
South Australia has received an interim quota of state nomination places from the Commonwealth Government.
-
Further allocations for the program year will be advised once final planning levels are confirmed; which is expected to be announced by September 2025.
-
This interim distribution means that places will be prioritised for applicants who meet South Australia’s critical skills and employment needs.
Nomination Eligibility Requirements
To qualify for South Australia’s state nomination, applicants must satisfy both Department of Home Affairs visa requirements and South Australia’s additional nomination conditions.
1. Skilled Occupation List
-
Your nominated occupation must appear on South Australia’s current Skilled Occupation List.
-
Each occupation may have specific requirements (e.g. years of work experience, English level, licensing/registration).
2. Visa Pathway Compliance
-
You must meet the eligibility criteria for the chosen visa (Subclass 190 or Subclass 491), including points test, English language requirements, skills assessment validity, and age limits.
-
In addition, you must meet the criteria of the South Australian nomination stream you apply under (Skilled Employment, Outer Regional South Australia, International Graduate, Offshore Applicant, etc.).
3. South Australian Graduates
-
International graduates of South Australia may be eligible for concessions, including:
-
Lower work experience threshold
-
Access to broader occupation categories
-
Along side other criteria, SA requires an applicant work on their nominated occupation to be eligible to apply for subclass 190 and subclass 491. to be South Australian Graduate (6 months), Skilled Employment in South Australia (12 months), Out-regional South Australia (9 months) and offshore stream.

Ranking and Selection
South Australia uses a ranking system to manage nomination demand. Eligible applicants are prioritised according to:
-
Occupation demand within South Australia
-
Length and level of skilled employment in South Australia
-
English language proficiency
-
Educational qualifications
-
Type of residency pathway chosen (e.g. Subclass 190 vs. 491)
Applicants who best meet South Australia’s workforce needs and contribute to long-term state objectives will receive invitations first.
