Working Holiday Visa Australia for Indonesians - Subclass 462 Guide (2026)
Australia's Work and Holiday Visa (Subclass 462) gives young Indonesians the chance to live, work, and travel in Australia for up to 12 months; with the possibility of extending to 2 or even 3 years. For the 2025-26 program year, 5,000 places were available to Indonesian passport holders and it is likely to remain the same given the goodwill between the Indonesian and Australian Government. This quota is among the highest annual caps for the Subclass 462 program, alongside China.
New quota for 2026-27 will be announced on 1 July 2026.
This page covers everything you need to know: eligibility, the SDUWHV letter, the next intake date, and exactly how to apply.

What Is the SDUWHV and How Do You Get It?
The SDUWHV (Surat Dukungan untuk Work and Holiday Visa) is a Government Support Letter issued by Indonesia's Directorate General of Immigration. It is a mandatory requirement without it, you cannot lodge your visa application with Australia.
Documents you need to apply for the SDUWHV:
-
Valid Indonesian passport (minimum 18 months validity)
-
KTP (Indonesian National ID Card)
-
English test results (IELTS or PTE)
-
Academic transcripts and graduation certificate (or student enrolment letter + 2 years of transcripts)

Important: The SDUWHV does not guarantee a visa; it is a prerequisite for the Australian visa application, not the visa itself.

When Is the Next SDUWHV Intake Opening?
There is no fixed annual date for the SDUWHV. The Directorate General of Immigration announces the opening each year, and once it opens, places fill quickly.
The next SDUWHV intake is expected to open around October 2026.
The best way to get notified the moment it opens:
-
Follow @ditjen_imigrasi on Instagram (Indonesian Immigration)
-
Follow @newstedglobal on Instagram and Facebook for English-language updates and document checklists
The single biggest mistake applicants make is waiting until the intake opens to start preparing. By the time most people hear about it, the quota is nearly full. Have your IELTS results, academic documents, and bank statement ready before October.
Step-by-Step:
How to Apply for WHV Australia from Indonesia

Can I Extend My Working Holiday Visa?
Yes. If you complete 88 days (3 months) of specified regional work during your first year such as agriculture, construction, bushfire or flood recovery - you become eligible for a second-year WHV. A further 6 months of regional work in your second year makes you eligible for a third-year WHV.
As of April 2025, the Australian Government expanded the list of eligible postcodes for specified work, giving more applicants access to extension pathways.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Indonesia part of the ballot system? No. Unlike China, India, and Vietnam, Indonesian applicants do not enter a ballot. Instead, the SDUWHV quota system manages demand on the Indonesian government's side.
What if the SDUWHV quota runs out? If the annual quota is exhausted before you apply, you must wait for the next intake - which typically opens the following year. This is why document preparation in advance is critical.
Can I apply for the WHV if I'm already in Australia? No. You must be in Indonesia when lodging your first Subclass 462 application.
How long does visa processing take? Processing times vary. Check the current processing times at immi.homeaffairs.gov.au before you plan travel.
Can I bring my partner or family? No. The Subclass 462 is a single-person visa. Family members cannot be included.
