Western Australia has formally activated its 2025-26 State Nominated Migration Program (SNMP) with the release of its first substantive invitation round in December 2025. Beyond the headline numbers, this round offers a clear view into how the State is positioning skilled migration to support workforce stability, economic continuity, and long-term planning priorities.
Rather than signalling a policy shift, the structure and spread of invitations indicate a measured and deliberate commencement of the program year.
Major Structural Signals
Lower points thresholds are returning in select sectors, particularly trades, construction, and essential services.
Recent EOI submission dates (2024-2025) were sufficient for invitation in several occupations, indicating active turnover rather than backlog clearing.
Schedule 2 occupations dominated, confirming WA’s continued reliance on non-priority but economically essential roles.
Onshore WA residency remains a decisive advantage, often offsetting lower points.
Occupations Invited at Relatively Lower Points
The following occupations were invited at 65-75 points (or around that range), with EOIs submitted within the past few months, signalling ongoing demand rather than one-off selection.
Trades & Construction
Bricklayer (331111) : Invited around 65 points - EOIs submitted in mid-late 2025
Carpenter / Carpenter & Joiner (331212 / 331211) : Invited from 65 points - Multiple invitations with 2025 submission dates
Wall and Floor Tiler (333411) : Invited from 65 points (General Stream) - Graduate VET invitations also observed
Electrician (General) (341111) : Invitations from 65 points - Recent EOIs (late 2025) included
Apart from these, multiple other applicants from multiple other Trade occupations were invited with as low as 65 points within very short span of time. To learn more about 1 or, 2 year Trade courses, message us directly on WhatsApp to get started, +61410478759.
Hospitality & Services
Cook (351411) : Invitations around 95 points, but very recent EOIs
Chef (351311) : Invited across both General and Graduate Streams - Demonstrates continued reliance on experienced hospitality roles
Care, Community & Social Services
Welfare Worker (272613) : Invited around 80 points - EOIs submitted in late 2024 to mid-2025
Youth Worker (411716) : Invitations at 85 points - Reflects ongoing demand in community services
Residential Care Officer (411715) : Invited under both schedules - Indicates workforce sustainability focus
Education (Selective, but Not High-Barrier)
Early Childhood (Pre-primary School) Teacher (241111) : Invited around 80-85 points - EOIs from early-mid 2025
Special Needs Teacher (241511) : Invitations issued at 80 points - Confirms alignment with WA service delivery priorities
WA is clearly favouring skills that translate immediately into employment, even where points scores are not at the top end. Recent EOIs are competitive; applicants are not necessarily competing with long-standing backlogs in many occupations. The program settings suggest continuity rather than tightening, at least in the early phase of the program year.
This first round confirms that Western Australia is using skilled migration as a labour market stabilisation mechanism, not a ranking exercise alone. For several occupations, timing, readiness, and occupational relevance are proving just as influential as raw points.
