Tasmania Skilled Migration Program: First PR Invitation Round of 2026-27

Migration Tasmania has released updated processing figures for the first invitation round of the 2026-27 program year, held on 20 August 2026. The numbers published on 27 August differ from what was first reported for the same round, most notably a lower invitation count and a lower lowest score invited on both subclasses. Applicants relying on the earlier figures should recheck their position against the numbers below.

20 August 2026 Invitation Round

ROIs invited to apply for nomination on 20/08/2026:

• Subclass 190 - 20 invitations - 17 Gold invitations and three Green invitations

• Subclass 491 - 25 invitations - One Gold invitation and 24 further invitations

• Due to the high number of Gold pass ROIs received for subclass 190, few additional ROIs have been invited. Due to being oversubscribed in total ROI invitations over the past two weeks, we invited only three non-Gold ROIs this week. We expect the number of Gold pass ROIs to decrease significantly over the coming weeks, which will allow us to issue a larger number of invitations.

The lowest scores invited:

• Subclass 190 - 544 points

• Subclass 491 - 91 points

Number of ROIs on hand (ROIs with a status of Submitted after the invitation round has taken place):

• Subclass 190 - 906 ROIs

• Subclass 491 - 572 ROIs

Nomination places available:

• Subclass 190 - 1,050 places

• Subclass 491 - 748 places

Oversubscription Drove the Change

Migration Tasmania's processing times page is updated regularly as invitations are finalised and applications move through the Gateway, so the places-remaining count reflects everything used so far this program year, not just the 20 August round on its own. Migration Tasmania also notes it was oversubscribed on total ROI invitations over the two weeks prior to 20 August, which is part of why the confirmed Subclass 190 invitation count came in well below what was first expected, and why it expects Gold Pass volume to ease and larger rounds to follow.

Nomination places, the TSE Gold Pass rules, employment and salary requirements, and the Subclass 491 Overseas Pathway change all remain as covered in our first-round post, nothing new has changed there since 20 August.

What Applicants Should Keep in Mind

The 27 August numbers are a truer read on the first round than what was originally published, but one round still doesn't tell you how the rest of the year will go. If Tasmania is part of your plan, whether you already have an ROI in the system or are still weighing it up, measure your profile against the 27 August settings, not the figures first published.

In particular, check:

• Your priority tier

• Your employment duration

• Your weekly hours and employer arrangements

• Your salary against the updated threshold

• Your points score against the confirmed lowest invited score, 544 for Subclass 190 or 91 for Subclass 491

• Whether your claimed priority attributes can be supported by evidence

• Whether your intended pathway is still receiving invitations

Expect the picture to keep sharpening as more ROIs are assessed and more nomination places are used up.

This first round sets the tone, but Tasmania's settings and invitation activity won't stay fixed as the year goes on.
