Western Australia (May-June) Invitation round

Western Australia Skilled Migration Update: Priority Invitations Issued with Low Cut-Off Points

Western Australia (WA) continues to actively address critical skills shortages through its skilled migration program. There were two invitation rounds in May and a relatively smaller one in June. These recent invitation rounds highlight the state’s commitment to attracting essential professionals by issuing fast-tracked invitations (within 1 month of EOI lodgment for multiple occupations) and significantly lower points thresholds - a trend that has persisted throughout the year. Multiple trade occupations received invitations for subclass 491 with only 50 points excluding the State points; an applicant can reach 50 points just by completing a relevant course and attaining a positive skills assessment. Our clients received invitations with 50 points (excluding state points).

Key Highlights of WA’s May & June Invitation Round:

  • Fast-Tracked Invitations: Applicants in high-demand occupations were invited within as little as one month of lodging their Expression of Interest (EOI), demonstrating WA’s urgency in meeting labour market needs. Architect, Architect/Civil Engineering draftsperson, multiple trade workers received PR invitations within 1 month of EOI lodgment.

  • Lower Points Requirements: Several key occupations received invitations with as few as 65 to 75 points, a substantial drop compared to previous rounds, offering a golden opportunity for skilled migrants. Applicants from multiple occupations received invitation with only 65 points.

  • Strong Focus on Graduate Stream and WA residents: WA continues to prioritize its Graduate Stream, welcoming recent international graduates from Western Australian institutions; especially those in teaching, healthcare, and community support fields.

Occupations Receiving Priority Invitations:

WA’s skilled migration program is now sharply focused on addressing state-critical roles. The occupations that received priority in this round include:

  • Community and Welfare Support Workers: With a growing need for mental health, disability, and social service support, these roles remain highly sought after.

  • Early Childhood Teachers: In light of national teacher shortages, WA extended invitations to applicants with just 65 points, underlining the sector’s priority status.

  • Trade Professionals: Core trade roles such as electricians, carpenters, plumbers, and mechanics saw increased invitations, particularly those with Australian qualifications or work experience.

Recent Trends and What’s Next:

Western Australia has maintained a consistent invitation strategy throughout 2025, with two substantial rounds held in May and a smaller, targeted round in early June. These rounds likely mark the conclusion of the state nomination program for the 2024-25 financial year.

This strategy reflects a well-managed approach to state migration, aligning invitations with WA’s evolving workforce priorities while keeping the process timely and responsive.

What This Means for Applicants:

If you’re an aspiring skilled migrant or recent graduate aiming to settle in Australia, WA continues to be one of the most responsive and accessible states:

  • Lower competition and cut-off points

  • Fast processing times

  • Graduate-friendly pathways

  • Opportunities across community services, trades, health, and education
